Talent management is a hot topic among corporations around the world currently, said talent management expert William J. Rothwell.

Talent management consisted mainly of two components: replacement planning and succession planning, he said at a one-day strategic talent management seminar organised by The International Centre for Leadership in Finance (ICLIF) recently.

Replacement planning makes provision for the sudden loss of key people and is often limited to the top level of the organisation.

Succession planning on the other hand is a continuing effort to prepare people for future roles through their daily work.
