Breaking the Motivational Code
|
Posted by Sean Rehder

By Jerry Pounds
"Unlike the DaVinci Code, the Motivational Code has yet to be broken. And as they trade argument and counter-argument about what makes us tick, our best and brightest management theorists seem to be suffering from chronic schizophrenia.
...Most organizational behavior experts, gurus and consultants weave their incantations from the motivational theories of "authorities". If you trace these back to source, you wind up reading B.F. Skinner, Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Alfred Adler and Carl Rogers. "

By Michelle Keller, Los Angeles Times
"For graduating college seniors, the job market is, well, awesome, dude. Hiring is up sharply and corporate competition for the class of 2006 is hot.
But for employers, the real challenge isn't getting freshly minted grads to sign on. It's getting them to stay.
Employers and hiring experts say the younger generation no longer approaches the first job as a nest for the next 10 or five, or even three, years.
'There's no longer a stigma in changing jobs frequently," said Eileen Kohan, executive director of the career center at University of Southern California. "It's not unnatural for someone to have several jobs in their first five years out of college.'"

Webinar: Assessing and Managing Risk in Contract Workforce Management
|
Posted by Sean Rehder

As rich as the potential rewards are for successfully engaging and deploying a stable of contract talent, there are risks associated with turning over a significant portion of the work that a company does to individuals who don't, technically, "work for the company." Some of these risks are business risks; for example, what are the implications on ownership of intellectual property? Some of the risks are financial: how does the process of dealing with the IRS change? Other potential risks are related to compliance.
In Part Three of this series we will look at how the best companies are managing these risks, starting with how to determine potential exposure points then moving into the various methods companies use to mitigate them.
When: Thu, Aug 10 / 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM ET Where: On The Web REGISTER
I'll be a panel member for this event, hope to "see you there."

Yet, none of these insure that a candidate will take, or be successful in, the promotion or relocation, because if the family system doesn’t like the fit, trouble abounds."
